The Poloplaey Chair: a collaboration between Loft Ltd and Plaey Workshop. Together, the plastic Robin Day chair seats that Loft produce, and a custom designed wooden base by Matt Kelly of Plaey, are combined to make up a brand new, eco-friendly chair design that eliminates waste from the production process. Some of the plastic seats come out of the mould with minor defects, so rather than waste them, Loft and Plaey teamed up to create a series of Poloplaey chairs.
To celebrate the launch of this new product line, several local Leeds based artists were asked to create a design for the exterior of the chairs. Here is my response. The 6 unique custom chairs were raffled off after being displayed across the UK, with all proceeds going to MAP charity, a Leeds based organisation that provides alternative education for young people.

I used the words 'Make No Waste' as a starting point for the abstract calligraphy. Painting in a monochrome colour scheme accentuates the natural grain of the plywood, and the metallic gold paint adds an extra layer of depth when you view the chair in person, catching the tone transition in the light.
Plaey Workshop have designed the base to feature eco-friendly material Valchromat, as well as a side table feature which can be adjusted to become an over knee laptop stand.
