This is a concept art project of a young adult fantasy book novel. It features an original character of mine named Ansu, and her small fairy companion Xochitl. The story would focus on the adventures of the young herbalist alongside her companion as both of them leave their cozy herb shop/home to travel the world in search of adventure.
In this project you will find the initial sketches for the illustration, a isometric view of their home and concept mockups of it as both the cover art for a novel and a vignette illustration within the book.

Initial sketches
Those are the initial sketches I made for the project. I wanted Ansu's outfit to contain classic elements of fantasy while still being functional for her job as a herbalist. Xochitl on the other hand would be more of the classic type of small, but mischievous and spiteful beings most of us are familiar with.
The full illustration
As you may probably have noticed, the final illustration became somewhat of a combination of both of the previous sketches, only colored and with a magical forest as the background.

I also drew concept art of what their home would look like. Built around a old, tall tree, their home would also function as a shop for the potions Ansu would make from all the magical herbs and funghi she and Xochitl collect from the forest.

I also made concept mockups of the illustration as a book cover and a colored version of my initial sketch serving as a single page illustration for the book.
