Hagamos Memoria

Remember for never repeat is the motto and soul of this project: Hagamos memoria.

We worked with the information provided by the government of Colombia to create a data-driven interactive map about thousands of victims resulting from Colombia’s armed conflict. The power of collective memory has been the central element in developing this project.

Names, dates, images, texts and sounds of every region in Colombia where the violence changed the lives of communities and families are now on display in a way we can keep the memory alive, recognize the pain, condemn the actions, and provide reassurance that such violence will not be repeated in the future.

Our team created a symbol strong enough to depict this historical memory: a tree. This iconography represents, in the broadest sense, life. Also, it speaks about immortality.
They draw the lines of each tree with a fragile stroke, but at the same time, it’s an unbreakable one.

It’s a tree of life, a tree of memory.

We included a subtle element, a component of value: the leaves. The more leaves a tree has, the more victimizing events happen in that land. So, therefore, we need more historical memory there.

It’s time to remember.
