Nicolas NOYON's profile

Kalenji Run-Light

Our goal was to create new concepts on the subject of night visibility. To do this we have studied the existing products and technologies available on the market at this period. We then conducted a sampling phase.
MOODBOARD
Throw back to 2011, the moldboard shows the trend and the technology of the moment.
RUNNING ITEMS
To practice running sports at night.
MONSTERS
Monster process is a quick and efficient way to check the functionality of an idea.
MONSTER #01
created on the basis of KALENJI Kiprun, our MONSTER 01 is design to improve night visibility. We have added pieces with reflective material to be seen at 360°.
MONSTER #02
The second version focused on improving the user experience by having a friendly user experience. Apply a removable reflective logo with a velcro base.
MONSTER #03
A proposal with a magnetic base for the third version.
MONSTER #04
A version equipped with L.E.D to generate an active flash lighting system.

MONSTER #05
Still in the field of active lighting systems, an attempt has been made to use a removable system that can be adapted to all shoes models.

MONSTER #06
We looked into ways of giving a signal at night to runners. The attempt n°6 is a textile badge to signal your presence during night outings.
MONSTER #07
For this version we proposed a lighted wearable with an active source as well as a lighted armband.

MONSTER #08
An illuminated armband with OLED technology for guaranteed night-time visibility.
MONSTER #09
One of the idea from the brainstorming came up the lightning ankle concept.
Working on this ankle guard allowed us to endured the the truth of this idea.
MONSTER #10
Mainly design on the concept of the visibility at night and using active and passive lightning system.
MONSTER #10.1
illustration of concept 10.1 aiming to set up our final vision of the product.

MONSTER #10.1
The advantage of generating a 3D version is to be able to quickly generate angles for renderings.
The goal of the rendering was to be able to give a realistic vision to the other departments, Marketing, Product Engineer, design team... in order to see the reaction for our concept.
MONSTER #10.2
A cap for winter outings, incorporating OLED technology.

A modeling phase to generate a scene that can be used for the renderings.
Rendering and post-production for a more realistic effect.

YOU'LL NEVER SEE NIGHT RUNNING THE SAME WAY
In 2011, the running brand of Decathlon called Kalenji launched its own innovative division. I'm pleased to have been a part of this team as a model maker designer.

FIELD OF VISION
Focus on the user experience, we studied the runners movements to find the best posture without tilting the head down.

we studied the possibilities on the market and looked for a different way to bring a night visibility mink experience when running.

NIGHT RUN
Run by night as if in broad day light this is the product promise.
Like Eadweard MUYBRIDGE we examined the running positions with the aim of finding the subjects parts that move the least and provide a panoramic vision.

RESEARCH
The Run light had to be designed to be worn by women and men alike,
while also being efficient for your running session.

MONSTER #11
we proposed a modular system with two types of fixation point architecture:
 4-point and 3-point
To make a quick prototype, we were able to get help from the expert advisors present in the Decathlon network to find solutions to our problems and make our lighting concept work.
MONSTER #11
During the presentation phase, different visuals are developed that also allow samples to communicate the idea.

CONCEPT K-LIGHT
Here a 3D visualization of the concept.
CONCEPT K-LIGHT
During this night outing we were able to share the user experience with a member of the Decathlon group and test our prototypes in real conditions.

CONCEPT K-LIGHT
After presentation and validation of the project we passed the hand to the accessory designer for the final design and launch in production.
