Odishi Dancer- Mughul Miniature Painting

Studying visual arts in India a major part of our syllabus is the history of Indian art with miniature painting given great emphasis to. Through this piece I wish to pay homage to the dying art form of miniature painting with its fine brush strokes made with a single squirrel hair brush, every minute stroke is placed carefully till the area is filled. Staying true to tradition I made this on 'Wasli' a special handmade paper. A base color was put in and the paper was burnished by placing the paper face-down on a flat marble with burnishing agate. The background has the sketch of a Madhubani painting, another art form of India to show the contrast in the bold figures of Madhubani with the delicate paintings of the miniature.
