Olympic National Park’s Beaches and Tidepools

Olympic National Park’s Beaches and Tidepools

Along the coast, Olympic National Park boasts several beaches that are pure gems. To get to several beaches, you need to walk through Olympic’s fabled rain forests. Olympic National Park protects over 65 miles of fragile coastline, with crashing waves, driftwood, dramatic sea stacks, inviting arches, and tidepools filled with life.

I created this artwork to be part of my ongoing series of prints for my National Parks Co project. I wanted to design an image that would show the rugged, rocky coast and the misty atmosphere that often prevails. But I also find the life and color of the tide pools to be fascinating. I created this image to show a connection between the intimacy of a tide pool and the grand landscape.
I created a preliminary, black and white version of my design before proceeding to color. I used this drawing to plan the linear patterns that flow through the finished, color artwork.
