This is the cover of my Grimm's Fairytales Public Domain Book. I wanted an older looking style to match the historical significance of the stories. To emphasize this older style I choose a hard cover, used filigree, and used a calligraphy/fairytale type of font.
For the illustrations within my book I choose all animals that were represented in the story. I wanted to present a darker narrative to mach the tones within the chapters themselves. I mostly used a darker more dramatic color palette to match the tone and to connect the illustrations.
