The refuge is located near the Strútslaug hot spring in Hólmsárlón, located in the south of the island and at an altitude of 700 meters. The architectural concept was to create a warm, welcoming place, respectful of the environment in which it takes place and slightly overhanging to offer a panoramic view of the landscape. The ground floor contains a cloakroom with a living room. The first floor has a bedroom and a dormitory sleeping four with a bathroom.
