The Stay Positive Project - Masters Degree Project

A typographic campaign aimed at increasing the well-being of people.

For my Masters Degree in Graphic Design I wanted to push the boundries of what typography can be used for.  The reason behind me choosing to focus my Masters project on typography was due to my passion for the typographic subject area, in particular type design.

The research question that the whole project's based upon is,

How can typography help increase the well-being of people?

After experimenting with many different concepts, including the leaf experiment, I settled upon creating a typographic campaign. Reason behind this choice was that I wanted to reach out to those who don't necessarily want to admit to others that they need help or that they are feeling down or stressed.

The main aspect of the campaign is the online blog, in which I post positive and motivational statements in many different styles of typography all hand created by myself. With the blog being hosted by Tumblr it allows me to freely reach out to many people by adding tags to the posts and so far I have over 100 subscribers to the blog. I have found it to be inspiring to many people as I have recieved multiple messages of thanks from viewers of the blog.
Another aspect of the blog is the physical side. Using the typography that is posted up on the blog (see examples below) I have created 100s of stickers. With these stickers I have then gone on to stick them around public places with the view to reach those who are offline, walking around doing every day tasks. This helps push out the positive message even further a field.

Finally, to get the message truly out there I cut out of cardboard, the main phrase that the whole campaign is based around, stay positive. The lettering being so large in scale meant that it could be seen from afar, shouting out the message to all passers by.
