This was the final project of my Advertising Design class. I chose the Phillips Hue brand and was tasked with creating an ad campaign including print and social media ads. With over a million custom colors for their devices, this was a campaign I felt I could show my creativity. I wanted the audience to feel they could express their uniqueness through this brand. A face gives makes the ads feel more personal. This brand gives the user the freedom to choose the colors that express them. I felt a color wheel was a great representation of the many colors we can experience. A mix between the face of another and their expression through the colors they choose is where I wanted to land when creating these advertisements. This is where my inspiration began as I started my work on this campaign.
I knew I wanted a campaign that would target people who valued personalization and expressing themselves. For the tagline I chose “Find the right hue for you.” For the font used in the tagline, I found a one that matched the font for “hue” in their logo. After finding the tagline, I started playing with the elements I had brainstormed, I made many drafts incorporating a color wheel and colorful images incorporating different and unique
faces. These were non-copyright images found on a website called unsplash. I wanted to represent a different color in each of the ads, using Photoshop, I altered the original colors of some of the images.
Next I had to figure out how to incorporate the color wheel. Something didn’t feel right just throwing the circle of color into the piece. I wanted something cleaner and sharper. I decided to focus more on the people and frame them with the wheel. This would give emphasis that they were the ones who had found their hue. This project was successful and I think is a cohesive and solid ad campaign.
