“Drawing With Line | untitled no.1 – no.51”

I spend most nights preparing and planning for projects, researching materials, sourcing images for the day or the week ahead and in those moments where I am not able to find adequate artist samples - I will sit and create what I need. These drawings are centered on “the sample” as much as they are studies and investigations in line, texture, shape and rhythm – abstract drawings and demonstrations of the elements of art and the principles of design. The work is about drawing but also about the material that is available to us to draw with. Do we use a ballpoint pen, Copics, pigment liners, Uni-balls or metallic gel pens? As a Teaching Artist I have discovered that my role is not just about “teaching” art but rather demystifying what art is and what art can be, what lines looks like and how we might fill a page. The lines that make these drawings are mostly intuitive, the texture simply the result of pushing into the page and the obsession is somewhere between commitment and play because art making should be fun and art accessible to anyone with a pen and paper.
