This project was quite a challenge logistically and artistically.
First, most of the shots were with two plates synchronized together and split in half,
meaning we had to do VFX for both of them.
Attaching the jetpack to the actor was made by manual animation frame by frame, for every shot.
Folding and unfolding the jetpack, was a combination of particle simulation effects and twisting plates spread over the surface of the wings.

From an artistic perspective, the main challenge was to come up with night shots, and their design.
We first started with red-looking night city (to match branding), but it was quite hellish looking,
so we had to dial that back down and come up with something more natural-looking.
Because we had several shots where we would have our black suit character lit
almost as a silhouette, we came up with an idea to have this morning dawn sky
as a way to separate him from the background.
Also, red neon signs helped in those shots where we can see these exoskeleton legs.
For day shots we've decided to match the look and color palette to a shot of our white character coming close to the camera while his jetpack is being deployed. After that, it was mostly coming up with a way to merge our city renders with amazing matte paintings.
