Phases of Venus
Just as our Moon goes through phases, Venus's visible sunlit hemisphere waxes and wanes as we orbit around our star. Gliding along its interior orbit between Earth and Sun, Venus grows larger but narrows to a thin crescent, as it approaches our planet and swings closer to our line-of-sight to the Sun.
2023 Evening Apparition
In this composite of backyard telescopic images we see the steady changes for Venus during it's appearance as our evening star at 2023. It reached inferior conjunction on August 13, 2023, passing 7.7° south of the Sun in the sky. After a few days, Venus shines clearly above the eastern horizon in predawn skies as planet Earth's morning star.
