Every once in a while, I get the opportunity to do wedding invitations, and honestly, there is nothing I enjoy more than helping to define a visual esthetic for such a special day.
Besides the black and white, the overarching theme of this project was budget. As with most weddings, any chance to cut costs is a welcome addition for the families involved. In order to get the quality of invitation that I felt the bride deserved, at the price they were looking for, I developed a design that could be reproduced on photocopiers, and then hand cut and assembled. This resulted in not only a beautiful design, but there was the bonus of a handmade feel to each piece.
In addition to the invitations and envelopes, because of the cost-saving techniques I applied, we were able to purchase both custom labels and custom mailing stamps, which featured a baroque pattern used throughout the piece. I also designed and illustrated a custom “logo” which was turned into a rubber stamp and used to print onto a variety of envelopes, bags and other assorted items that would be present at the reception. The overall effect was absolutely gorgeous.
