Residents of Kamchatka are considered by many to be lucky only because it is here that they have the opportunity to feast on the freshest and most delicious salmon. This culinary dish is considered valuable and kosher, and one might even say a royal delicacy.

Salmon is the primary and favorite food for many animals and birds of Kamchatka, especially for numerous Kamchatka bears. Salmon are born in freshwater and feed far into the sea. They find their way back to their river to lay eggs again and give rise to new offspring, thanks to homing - the natural mechanism for feeling their native river. Upon entering the river, Pacific salmon stop feeding and acquire mating attire. External changes (discoloration, formation of humps on the body, regrowth of jaws and teeth) are accompanied by profound irreversible internal changes in the body. All individuals participating in migration and reproduction die, laying eggs and giving rise to new offspring.
