Statement:
"On September of 2021 a volcanic eruption started in the eastern side of the island of La Palma. The images of the lava invading towns shocked the world and left an emotional imprint into the habitants of the island. At that moment, I was working as a registered nurse in an emergency room ( my formal job ) at Barcelona, during the fifth wave of the global pandemic caused by the covid-19 disease and dealing with the death of my mom three months before.
I felt an automatic emotional connection with the islanders in their efforts of accepting loss as a part of life and nature. I also was gazed up by the beauty of the image of the birth of new lands that I watched when I arrived home after the 12h medical calls from the comfort of my computer.
This pictures are the result of a short trip to La Palma, five months after the eruption ended, with two work colleagues and personal friends -Eugenia and Rubén- in a moment that we are facing up the changes and learning how to carry on our own emotional backpack.The trip started as a stroke of luck, the luck of meeting them and the luck of been exhausted after a hard night of work and find some cheap flights.
Right now, looking at the pictures and remembering the beauty of the island I just can think about how small we felt when we face the nature and the cosmos.
This pictures are also a vain effort to capture the complete beauty that emanates from the island and the people who appears in, a remembrance to enjoy life and love at all his forms and wonder about a famous quote by R. Barthes about the incapacity of the image to capture "things" that remains only in memories of the subjects and remind me that when we we're gone and this pictures would be deleted "no, one will any longer be able to testify to this: nothing will remain but an indifferent Nature".

"En septiembre de 2021 se originó una erupción volcánica en la cara oriental de la isla de La Palma. Las imágenes de la lava invadiendo pueblos sacudieron el mundo y dejaron una huella emocional en los habitantes de la isla. En ese momento, trabajaba como enfermero de urgencias en Barcelona ( mi trabajo formal) durante la quinta ola de la pandemia global provocada por la Covid-19 y lidiando con la perdida de mi mama solo tres meses antes.
Sentí una conexión automática con los isleños en su esfuerzo por aceptar la perdida como una parte de la vida y la naturaleza. Al mismo tiempo, me sentía capturado por la belleza de las imágenes del nacimiento de nuevas tierras que veía desde la comodidad del ordenador al llegar a mi hogar tras guardias médicas de 12h .
Estas fotos son el resultado de un viaje corto a La Palma, cinco meses después del fin de la erupción, con dos compañeros de trabajo y amigos personales - Eugenia y Rubén- en un momento en el que estamos afrontando los cambios de la vida y aprendiendo a cargar con nuestra mochila emocional. El viaje empezó con un golpe de suerte, la suerte de conocerlos y la suerte de estar agotados después de una noche dura de trabajo y encontrar vuelos baratos.
Justo ahora, mirando las fotos y recordando la belleza de la isla solo puedo pensar en cómo de pequeño nos sentíamos cuando enfrentábamos la naturaleza.
Las fotos son también un esfuerzo en vano por capturar la completa belleza que emana de la isla y las personas que aparecen en ellas, un recuerdo para disfrutar de todas las formas de vida y amor. Esto me hace pensar en una celebre cita de R, Barthes sobre la incapacidad de la imagen para capturar "cosas" que permanecen solamente en la memoria del sujeto y recordar que cuando nos hayamos ido y estas fotos sean borradas "nadie más será capaz de testificar eso: solo permanecerá la indiferente naturaleza".
