The Burrough Bag - 3D concept

The Burrough Bag - 3D concept
Artist / designer - Darius Frank

Burrough - an obsolete variant of BURROW (verb) : to conceal oneself in or as if
in a burrow.

We set out to develop a luxury accessory in an effort to further our knowledge on 3D texture and staging. What we learned was so much more. Finding comfort sculpting within Nomad Sculpt, we leveraged the capabilities of other programs (Blender and Adobe Dimension) to detail those early efforts with texture, environment, lighting, and other render tools. By way of interaction and repeat iterations, we not only expanded our 3D capabilities, but discovered a process for development that brings efficiency and capacity.

We present the Burrough bag, a 3D luxury bag concept by Darius Frank, queer black artist, designer, and escapist.

It was after rendering in Nomad Sculpt that we realized so much was missing from the final experience. A lot of the details and allure we recognized, was not there. Though a solid build, it needed texture and environment. So we exported the obj file for Adobe Dimension. Adobe Dimension offers a great range of out-of-the-box textures, scenes, and lighting options, with easy application and workflows.

The real trick was learning how to alter those elements to achieve desired effect.

The Adobe Dimension render highlighted structural and cosmetic issues.

~ Some of those issues were with alignment, smoothing, texture details, etc. ~

We returned to Nomad Sculpt to implement edits, in doing so, taking the opportunity to add smaller details, making the designer bag, designer. Features like the screws, additional piping, and the updated side pocket were added.

With the final iteration, We had difficulty importing the obj into Adobe Dimension. This afforded us the opportunity to develop in Blender to find a solution. As a learning experience, adding even more details like stitching and testing color application, Blender was just the trick needed to round out this experience. Emboldened by our time in Blender, we took it a step further, sourcing textures and instruction on use, so that we could produce that designer feel through granular details and adjustments.

Minding the small items like fabric grain, texture direction, metal roughness, lighting, and composition, we achieved the look we were hoping for.

Thank you
