A nationally ranked food service company, Ovations Food Services delivers fresh menus, fresh management and fresh ideas to public assembly venues, hotels and casinos throughout the United States and Canada.
Each year Ovations sends out a digital Holiday Card to clients, vendors and employees. In years past the Holiday cards consisted of an image or a stock video background with text. The goal for this year was to create a fun, dynamic video that the recipient would actually take the time to watch.

 

I was given the task of taking provided text and creating the Holiday video from scratch. I was given a couple of simple parameters, but other than that I was given complete creative freedom on the project.

I came up with the idea of using a snow globe as a fun way to convey the message. After getting approval on the story board, I began to create all the video elements and animate in After Effects. This was my first real animation project using After Effects, so there was a lot of trial and error to get everything right.
The final project resulted in three videos with slightly different messaging. The Holiday card was well received by each targeted group, and analytic data show a huge jump in number of views.
