This project aims to empower coffee producers with valuable tools for evaluating the quality of their coffee. Through the development of comprehensive evaluation sheets, we provide farmers with insights and guidance on how to assess the flavor, aroma, and overall quality of their coffee beans. These evaluation sheets not only highlight the strengths and areas for improvement in their coffee, but also provide specific and personalized recommendations to enhance each stage of the production and post-harvest process based on the identified areas for improvement. Our project is dedicated to equipping coffee farmers with the knowledge and tools they need to produce exceptional coffee that meets the high standards of the specialty coffee industry.
Our evaluation sheets were carefully crafted to complement our technical advisory service and sales of tools for coffee quality improvement on the farm. These evaluation sheets serve as a tangible resource that farmers can refer to on an ongoing basis, even after the advisory service is completed or tools are purchased. By offering continuous support and guidance, our evaluation sheets foster customer loyalty by helping farmers improve their coffee quality over time. Additionally, the use of our evaluation sheets enables coffee producers to demonstrate their commitment to industry standards and continuous improvement, which can help them establish connections with high-value markets that prioritize quality.
This tool is designed with a user-oriented approach, catering to coffee producers of different ages and backgrounds. We strive to bridge the gap between the technical language of the international coffee market and traditional coffee farms, making the evaluation process accessible and relevant, and empower coffee producers to assess and improve the quality of their coffee, regardless of their level of ffamiliarity with the specialty coffee industry.
By doing so, we aim to improve the participation and inclusion of coffee producers in the value chain, eliminating barriers and enabling them to become small entrepreneurs in the coffee industry. We believe that empowering coffee producers with practical tools for quality improvement can contribute to their economic sustainability and therefore, to the sustainability of the whole chain.
The tool was developed using Power BI, which facilitated the seamless integration of the analysis service and the semi-automation process, ultimately leading to the generation of tools for more than 600 coffee producers in the past year.
