Bamse was a St Bernard Dog that went to war along with his master on the Norwegian ship, Thorodd. Fleeing to Scotland after the invasion of Norway, the big dog became well known wherever he went. Based at Port Edgar on the River forth, the Thorodd moved to Dundee and then Montrose, and carries out minesweeping duties during the Second World War. The dog was adopted as the mascot of the Royal Norwegian Navy.
