Shoshone-Bannock Hotel

Shoshone-Bannock Hotel is based out of Fort Hall, Idaho. It is owned and operated by the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. I was commissioned by tribal leadership to develop a logo that paid tribute to the rich heritage of the tribe.

Client: Shoshone-Bannock Hotel
Role: Branding
LOGO DEVELOPMENT
The development stage of the process was unique in that I was given three very specific concepts to explore: animals (consisting of a buffalo or eagle), tribal sun imagery, and a script mark.

Very early in the process the script ideations were abandoned, and an emphasis was put on combining the sun imagery with an animal icon.
LOGO DEVELOPMENT - ROUND 2
After several rounds of revisions, we began narrowing down the options and focusing on a final solution. It was at this point the tribe introduced a new element - bead work.

The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes are well known for their beautiful bead work. Obviously this element was discussed in the inital research phase, but the tribe wanted to focus on the previously states concept ideas. After a change of heart, the bead work became the primary focus of the logo design.

I was given the following image as a design reference. It was very important to me that the logo have a authentic element. I didn't want perfectly symmetric beads laid out in concentric circles. To achieve this, I worked with the reference image and hand placed each bead.

FINAL LOGO DESIGN
BRAND STADARDS
Once the logo was finalized, I was given the responsibility of developing brand standards that could be passed along to the hotel marketing department.
APPLICATION
A business card template was the only other devliverable that I was responsible for.
You might be wondering why the sign differs from the final logo. The tribe had the sign installed before commissioning the logo. They requested that the final logo type not match the sign.
