Cadence: Wearables for Parkinson's Disease

Cadence: Wearables for Parkinson's Disease
Many people who live with Parkinson's disease (PD) experience difficulties walking and gait. Disturbances in Gait are a frequent cause of disability and impairment for those with PD and significantly impact their quality of life. Cadence is a wearable assistive device developed to alleviate these gait disturbances.
Clinically proven sensory cueing technologies have been shown to help establish a constant gait pattern by providing a stimulus as a rhythmic cue. The cue, present as a green laser line and vibratory stimulation under the sole of the foot, helps the brain initiate and maintain the movement necessary for walking. The outcome of the project integrated this technology through a redesigned shoe that sought to improve the overall walking experience of those with Parkinson's‚ disease and enable patients to move on their own safely.
