KVb222 | Spatial Art: Object and Site | A2 | Nim Chin Fan
In this assessment, Nora and I created spatial art for the Green Heart Fair in Barrambin/Victoria Park. This installation was designed as a recreational area and let visitors climb up and rest. We also aimed to bring attention to the park's man-made topography, reclaiming its silhouette as a vessel to educate visitors on its history.
Site Location:
We chose to place our installation near the treeline of  Victoria Park. The seasons are that it is next to the main area and would be highly visible from the entrance, so it could attract visitors to interact with.
In the first two weeks, we decided to design an interactive artwork where visitors can sit and rest during the fair. Then, we started to build our own model first to explore more ideations. In my idea, I used two shaped aluminium wires and tied them with ropes to create a space for kids to climb and rest on the top.
My sketches and inspiration:

My First Model:
For the second model, we used tracing paper to draw the contour map, then drilled screws on the wood board and placed the steel wire mesh on top to form the model.

After building the second model, we liked the structure of the model and the flexibility of the wire mesh, but we can explore other materials such as poly mesh net bags and laundry bags. Also, we noticed that more posts might be needed to enhance the likeness.
Second Model:
In the final model, we printed the contour map of Victoria Park and selected the locations of the posts. Then, we drilled holes in the wood board for the posts and cut the bamboo skewers into different lengths. At last, we formed the shape and mounted the steel wire mesh.
