Execise : Basic Design
This exercise is a design process that exists at the heart of every design. That is taking an abstract idea and turning it into a tangible object through various design techniques. These include analysing details, creating drawings, designing patterns, studying colour theory and building models.
1. Basic Line Drawing : A simple composition was created by repeating and rotating a square design.
2. Simplified Line Drawing : The basic drawing was further simplified by removing certain lines and adding or extending others such that they harmonise with one another.
3. Figure Ground Drawing : The line drawing composition was then coloured in black and white so that the objects stand out from their background.
4. Abstract Drawing : The line drawing composition was abstractly coloured to create a dramatic effect with dark and light areas.
5. Primary Color Drawing : The line drawing composition was coloured using a Primary colour scheme. Red, Yellow and shades of Blues used here are clear, straightforward and bold in nature. These colours are often associated with childhood hence creating a playful mood.
6. Warm Colour Drawing : The line drawing composition was coloured using a Warm colour scheme. The use of Red, Orange and Yellows here evokes feelings of optimism and energy.
This is a line drawing composition created using another square design, where it was repeated and mirrored to form a seamless pattern. The combination of parallel and staggered lines helps to break the symmetry. Also, the balance between the flow of vertical and horizontal lines makes the composition appear dynamic. The colours used here, Blue and Orange are complementary to each other. They breathe life into the drawing and make it look more alive and active.
Darkness to Light, Ink Painting is created using a stencil with a square outline. Several ink impressions are created using this stencil. Every impression is positioned so that when combined, they produce a transition from dark to lighter areas.
