For this project, I was tasked to make a website that joins learning UI/UX theory, principles, and basic web technologies to create a website in Figma. The objective is to plan a site for a designer of our choice. This designer could be chosen from any field — including architecture, art, fashion, graphic design, industrial design, painting, sculpture, typography, etc. however they have to make an impact in some way.
I chose the illustrator and graphic designer Dick Bruna for my website because his character Miffy is well-known throughout history. He has impacted many people's childhoods and his creations are still well known today. She is featured in more than 30 books, far more than any other character he created. Miffy appeals to children all over the world, instilling a sense of safety.
Many children can identify with Miffy and her adventures. She is uncomplicated and innocent, has a positive attitude, and is always open to new experiences. The typography and imagery were paired together to make a cute yet unified look to keep up with the aesthetics of Dick Bruna.
Elements from the original Miffy website and Miffy Museum website were inspired and helped make this process easier seeing as how there were many flaws in the official website. The simplistic and easy to navigate layout is to mimic the simple, flat colored prints he has created. I also personally dislike comic sans being used as a typeface for a website.
The typography and imagery were paired together to make a cute yet unified look to keep up with the aesthetics of Dick Bruna.
