LET’S SPEAK DESIGN !

Institutional Poster. School of Industrial Design. University of Montreal (2000)

What is the language designers speak?
At the School of Industrial Design, they speak … PRODUCT !

In this image, there's a clear formal substitution. The tongue, a symbol of communication, is replaced by a sinuous shape, red and hissing – evoking the biblical serpent's seduction of Eve with a novel offering.

Can you guess what is the object replacing the tongue? Keen eyes will recognize the iconic Panton Chair, a timeless creation conceived in 1960 by the visionary Danish industrial designer, Verner Panton.

ART
Poster celebrating the presence of Canadian artists at the Canadian Pavilion at Vancouver Expo 86 (1986)

The mandate called for a bilingual poster, showcasing all forms of art. A real puzzle...

Given that the word ART is spelled the same way in French and English, a typographic solution seemed obvious. However, to break away from the norm (not to say the banality) of typographic characters, I imposed upon myself a process inspired by paradoxical optical illusions like the Penrose triangle or Escher's impossible stairs.

In this poster, the word "ART," completely legible in 2D through an optical illusion, cannot exist in material reality. Thus, this improbable typographic construction becomes a metaphor for artistic creation— the only human activity capable of surpassing the world of reality to touch the limits of the infinite.

RESPECTING DISABILITY, TRANSCENDING NORMALITY, EMBRACING DIVERSITY
Poster Heroes International competition on the theme of Disability (2023)

This symbolic poster features a birthday red brick balloon defying gravity and floating against a serene blue sky. The juxtaposition of fragility and strength conveys the resilience and hope of individuals with disabilities. It celebrates their ability to rise above challenges, like an impossible balloon soaring against all odds.
