Odissea

In the expansive realm of human endeavor, a cosmic odyssey unfolds—a journey guided by timeless ideals and the pursuit of enlightenment. Individuals traverse uncharted territories, driven by curiosity and the quest for truth. Graduation marks a transformative moment, transcending personal achievement to embrace a collective pursuit of understanding and empathy

The Crusader Yearbook stands as Xavier Ateneo's official yearbook, meticulously curated to encapsulate the essence of each academic year. As the editor-in-chief of this esteemed publication, I had the honor of steering its creative direction.

The Concept

Drawing inspiration from the wonders of space exploration, I felt compelled to choose a theme that resonated deeply with the spirit of the 2019 academic year. Hence, "Odissea" was selected as its title, evoking the grandeur of cosmic exploration. Much like intrepid astronauts venturing into the cosmos, college students embark on their own journeys, encountering challenges, discovering new horizons, and forging meaningful connections along the way. I believed a wordmark would best communicate this concept. I aimed for a classic appearance, paying tribute to the 91-year-old institution.

Type & Color

For the typeface, I opted for Domaine, a sharp and elegant serif font that seamlessly combines elements of traditional French and British styles to create a contemporary aesthetic. Italicizing the 'O' added an extra touch of character to an already modern typeface. Additionally, I chose SF Pro to complement the main typeface.

I was particularly drawn to the idea of incorporating metallic colors into the 2019 yearbook. I had been immersing myself in spacecraft photos and found myself diving deep into a NASA rabbit hole. This inspired me to envision a palette that wasn't overly flashy, consisting of blacks, whites, and grays. However, I became increasingly enthusiastic about incorporating Xavier Ateneo's official color, which is blue. I knew that this color should serve as an accent, confident that it would enhance visual interest, especially when paired with the metallic material cover that we intend to use for the yearbook's case.
