Statement of Intent: Practical Experiment with Taking Images

The audience for my image set is food lovers; I intend for the audience to want to eat and gain inspiration from the food featured in my images. Food photographer Linda Hermans has inspired me to experiment using the Bokeh effect, as she uses this effect frequently in her food photography.

My six photographs from the food genre will be genre specific: depicting a clear narrative, illustrating fruit, and the way fruit can be used to make different food and drink.

Images will be shot using a wide aperture and small f number, such as f1.8, and a fast shutter speed, such as 1/125 to create the Bokeh effect. The camera will be set up on a tripod and a mixture of natural and artificial light will be used, together with a diffuser to ensure good exposure and maximum image quality. Images will be taken at a 45-degree angle and straight on perspectives, in both portrait and landscape. The bokeh effect will create depth and dimension in a set of visually appealing shots, which together with a range of backdrops and props, will enhance the appearance and convey the deliciousness of the fruit, food and drink.
