Divergence - Barbadoes Canal and Training Facility

DIVERGENCE | The Barbadoes Canal and Training Facility

The barbadoes canal and training facility is the first step to establishing barbadoes island as a community owned enterprise. The approach to the structure is created by walking along a series of elevated pathways which remain above site level after leaving the parking area. These paths currently go to the canal and the training facility, but offer room for expansion as more of the island is built on. the canal itself becomes a destination for the people to gather, observe, and actively participate in, the sport of dragon boating. The canal also offers enough space for other boaters to dock while they visit the island. The enclosure itself consists of two main buildings divided by program category. Each of these spaces are unique in their structural system, as well as their function. The goal of this project was to create an invaluable asset to the community that would serve as an attraction to begin the movement to occupy barbadoes island. This project is to be presented to the West Norriton Township on May 14th, 2015 by myself, with co-ordination from the community in hopes of the future of this cause becoming a reality.
