The Marquis – Identity Design for Condominums

Why The Marquis?

The inspiration for the name, The Marquis is derived from Canadian history and the Seignrurial systems established by the French who first settled in the areas around Bishop Grandin and De La Seigneurie.

When first presented, it may conjure ideas of the French aristocracy—the Marquis du Sade for example—which reinforces the idea that this development is one of class and culture. However, as indicated by the “crown of wheat“ above the word mark, the name mostly pays homage to the Habitants who farmed the land. The Marquis, is in fact the name of one of only three strains of wheat grown by the early settlers in the region.

We felt that this homage to les Habitants du la Seigneurie was particularly fitting because of the natural surroundings created by the nearby Bishop Grandin Greenway and the Trans-Canada Trail. Although this won’t be immediately obvious to most, it should serve as a pleasant surprise for those who care to discover it.
