SharePoint Success | H&A Architects & Engineers | 2011-2012
From the moment I saw it, I loved it. And I didn't even know what it was.

I started working at H&A Architects & Engineers in October 2007 as an IT Support Technician in the IT Department. Back then, only 23 years old, I was new to the corporate world. During my first week, I was introduced to an ugly purple internal website called the Intranet.

That's when it happened.

I remember, my co-worker would laugh as he walked by my cubicle because I always kept the intranet open even though the information never changed - ever.  What he didn't realize is, I didn't love the intranet for what it was - I loved the intranet for what it could be.

However, it wasn't until I moved into the Marketing Department, as a team member of the newly-formed Communications team, that I got the opportunity to really dig in. Two years later (and many lessons learned), the intranet was well on its way to becoming a SharePoint Success.

Here's a brief look at my journey and what I've learned along the way. Enjoy.
The old intranet lacked content, structure, and organization.
However, it takes a lot more than what meets the eye to make an intranet successful...
To start, well-planned wireframes...
And a clear, consistent design and layout...
Lastly, and most importantly, a thorough understanding of your target audience and the organization's needs..................................................Why? Because life is too short to have bad user experiences.
