Climate Responsive Building Facade

The project investigates responsive building facade systems that adapt to the dynamic environmental conditions to regulate the internal conditions in a habitable space over different periods of time by exhibiting a state of motion and dynamism. Heat, Light and wind are the primary parameters for regulation, leading to energy efficiency and dynamic spatial effects. Passive and active skins using pneumatic actuators are developed through investigations of smart systems that integrate smart materials and smart geometries. The precedents in this domain have rarely dealt with individually controlled multiple parameters of heat and light in a single system, which is attempted in this project.

By breaking down the resources available outside, we will get three parameters to control
•Wind
•Heat
•Diffused light
Now these three parameters are considered and explored various basic ways to control each of them individually. By combining these ways and I came up with various solutions which resulted a number of ideas, which is further evaluated and finalized.
CONCEPT 1
1.Gaps are aligned for direct light and air. 2.Gaps not aligned for diffused light.
CONCEPT 2
1.Minimum gaps between the the front and the rear plane, hence less gaps. 2.Maximum gaps between the the front and the rear plane, hence more gap for light and air.
CONCEPT 3
FINAL DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
All concepts were analyzed with respect to light, heat and wind control capabilities. And were clustered on the basis of cost, maintenance and aesthetics and then evaluated and Concept 3 was Selected as the champion concept amongst the three and was taken further for development.
