2009 / Coffee Cup Model

Coffee Cup @ Aveiro Art Noveau Museum
This project started in late 2009. It was adressed to all class students to design a coffee cup to the brand new Art Noveau Museum in Aveiro, Portugal.
In the first step of finding a concept, I focused on the idea of drinking coffee with your eyes closed and the calm sense that the moment translates.

To get my concept built, i concentrated in the hand shape. The solution was the blend of the most common coffee cup mold (circle) to the "perfect" one, the triangle. The result shape is not only more ergonomic but the empty space of two hands crossed, therefore the perfect fit to the idea of the drinking with your eyes closed.
Time to the give the ideas/draws some 3D shape.
Some of the first renders:
Also, planning the service in public space, I got the idea to build a cover to keep the coffee hot, for the time we take some while to drink the coffee, whether the reason is.
After some more draws and teacher talks, I transformed the cork strip to hold the cup to a full and protected support.
The final coffee cup model had this shape:
Overall, it was the first full-time product design exercise during my degree. Parallel to the modellation, we did a 1:1 model mock-up and a poster.
