The purpose was to find a sustainable solution for a section of the Portuguese coast with high tourism potential and exposure to natural and anthropological risks.

 The area of Praia Grande and Alto do Rodízio, in the coast of Sintra, at the borough of Colares, was chosen because the coastal line went through significant changes in recent years. This is mainly due to the combination of property development near coastal limits and strong storms in recent years.

As such, it was decided to address the issue via a regeneration strategy; that combines demolition of buildings and coastal renaturalization in Praia Grande with urban rehabilitation and construction of new buildings in Alto do Rodizio.

At an urban design level, two areas were particularly focused; a square and a beach complex. These solutions derive from the strategy and drive the development of the surrounding area.
