HEAL TOGETHER | The Limbe Medical Complex
By deriving design principles from the framework of the Blantyre/Limbe community, this project seeks to create a complex of healing that is contextually and culturally familiar while providing spaces of interaction and connection between various user groups. The program consists of an entry/reception area, an outpatient clinic, a surgery theatre, a lab space, a maternity clinic, a rental space (to offer space to local dentists, eye doctors, etc.), a cafe/conference space, and doctor's housing for medical professionals traveling to Africa to give time to work at the complex. In an effort to forge a relationship between healing and the community, the project strives to create an architectural dialogue between interior, exterior, landscape, and the users. All of the circulation spaces and gathering spaces are move outside, and exist along the length of the bar scheme, with a prayer space as the datum point at the end. This creates expanses of visual and physical connections between program nodes.
