WHAT'S YOUR VISION

WHAT’S YOUR VISION
This print is an exploration of combining an old photograph with printmaking. The photograph was shot during 2007/ 2008, I couldn’t remember what I was thinking but looking at the photograph again, I was just taking a picture of the clouds or some signage. I turned this into a 1c halftone image.
There is something about halftone images that are very charming which I can’t explain. It’s a reproduction technique which turns low resolution images into something of decent quality. From this context, the image is actually pretty good. I don’t have the exact specifications of the image but it’s resolution is 72–88 pixel/inch. I decided to have the smallest circle size possible because this is my first attempt. The tools used for the actual screen print are the standard ones used in a silkscreen system. I used a fine mesh screen and printed with a much mesh count but i guess it’s fine mesh,I bought a standard screen, soft rubber squeegee with a pointed tip, which i leaent that is not the most efficient in printmaking. Some other things of note that I have learnt is that the photo-emulsion cannot last for longer than six weeks without losing its strength and high detail. So here I have finished exposing while checking my emails and also thinking about getting a cup of coffee. During the exposing and the cleaning is something that I am still learning. If it is exposed for too long, it’s difficult to wash off the parts needed and an insufficient cleaning would lead to a bad print. Here is the final print, One C. Printed on 170 GSM
As you can see, the final print is massive. The paper I used was a 170GSM. Ultimately, this print marks a test within my skills and passion towards printmaking. You can tell the tiny dots were clearly printed out. It is also good mention that the rough patchy bubbles that appeared on the first print was due to the screen bring dragged along with the paper. The prints featured in this article are test prints. Additional final prints on heavy fine arts printing paper available on demand up to 50 editions. Email me for more information
