Ensō Pinching Plate | Pottery Practice

I started without expecting anything, just not to do it wrong.
I did this project as one of my first practices in pinching and glaze application, while I was working as an intern at CALIXTA (http://www.queridaceramica.com) a ceramic workshop located in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León.
At the heart of the piece stands an Ensō symbol of Japanese calligraphy that represents the balance between the universe and the emptiness. Minimalist expression of Japanese aesthetics.
I covered it with a heavy layer of translucent enamel that fractured inside the oven forming a sequence of small mosaics that were imperceptible to the touch.
stunning visual effect
I always considered myself a truly minimalist designer, fanatic of order and symmetry. However....
Throughout the process I learned to appreciate organic morphology in its true form. Silhouettes that flow through a volume without any intention; rather, with intentions beyond our understanding.
It seems that the material lives with its own consciousness
After all, it was one of the most gorgeous accidents I've ever come across.
