People Working Cooperatively

The goal for this project was to re-create the People Working Cooperatively website and make it more functional to the users. PWC is a non-profit that works with many elderly and disabled clients so accessibility, readability, and functionality were all the primary concerns when developing this site. The original website had a lot of dense paragraphs in light grey and small point sizes that were difficult to read. There were also many pages that would open new tabs when clicked on. I worked to avoid that and keep everything on the same site so the user would be easily able to navigate.
Mood Board:
The mood board really helped me to get a feel for what I wanted the website to look like before actually creating the website. I ended up eventually changing the colors slightly but it was a great starting point and helped me get out of the mental block that I was having before creating the site in terms of the atmosphere of the site and how picture or text heavy it would be. I also chose to set up the mood board in the same way that the header of the website would be arranged so that helped with the design as well because I was already working within those confines.
User Personas:
User Personas helped me a lot with my process because I work really well when I have a story or a personality. I used them like characters in a book when I imagined how the site would function. It was a great way to sort of get into the head of my 'client'. When I would get stuck on how to lay something out or what the importance of something was I would think back to my user personas and those would help me think through the issue.
Wireframes
Wireframes helped because I got to understand the user flow and how my site might be used from an outside perspective and I didn't have to prompt the user to do something or click on a certain button. It was a good way to figure out what I needed to add to make the site more intuitive and easier to use.
