I hate art (but what's art got to do with it?)
// series of 9 drawings, mixed media on paper, 2018.
// This series was created as a kind of analytical take on one of my "I hate art" moments (let's face it, artists always have love-hate relationship with what they do). I have decided to step back and ask myself what is actually that what I hate, is it the art itself, or the system of values that has developed from and around it? The idea was to depict typical situations and relations I have noticed as recurring. Some are more universal, and some are more specific for the context of Croatian cultural scene. I decided to finish the series with a kind of self-portrait, eponymous to the series title, still leaving the question open for further discussion, but facing with the fact that, after all, I don't really hate art.
* Not to stay confused, the artworks in drawings are abstracted to simple forms just for reason to stay no-name objects, around which dynamics of relations are built. Shown situations mostly do belong to modern&contemporary museums/galleries/art scene context, because, well, they are contemporary, and not because I intended to mock or disvalue something. I am a huge, huge fan of abstract expressionism and mid-20 century painting, so if there is a bit of mocking in my works, it is only from pure affection and with love.
