KPTV FOX 12

A move across town to a new station means new fun to be had, new personalities to promote, and new ratings to grab.  Here are some projects I've conceived, written, directed, edited, mixed, composited...

KOIN Weather

And I'm back with new projects!

KOIN 6 in Portland has offered me the chance to help raise their ratings.  Here are some impactful spots I've created to promote our weather team.

I'm cutting on Premiere CC now, and I like it!

Spokane-O-Vision
Sadly, not many people watch our CW sister station.  During the day, it's an eclectic mix of court shows, talk shows and comedies.  The directive from our sales manager was to 1) localize the station because people don't even know it's a Spokane station and 2) try something different.  Once he said that, we were off...

Once I finalized my script, I shot all the downtown buildings in HD, and our graphic guru added the 3D logos and superimposed the shows.  I did some compositing as well.  Then I cut it all together in FCPX.  It's the music and the voice over that really sell it, in my opinion.  It's a quirky campaign that I've been having fun with.  Plus, it's scheduled to run the entire season.

KREM 2 Image Campaign

Fun can be had if there is a budget.  This was part of the yearly push for our news team.  Working with our friends at ILF is always a learning experience.  They shot the incredible HD footage.  I shot the DV b-roll and cut everything together on the Avid.

America's Next Top Model search
Spokane and "Event Television" don't necessarily go hand in hand.  When it was decided that we would host a Top Model audition, we wanted to make it a big deal.  Hundreds of hopefuls showed up, but only 50 would even be allowed to audition.  It was controlled mayhem!

I used my own DV footage for the entire spot (except for the show clips, of course).  The edit was multi-layered and fun.  I tried to make it a bit flashy, colorful...and fierce!

Rachel's Challenge

The Final Cut systems are finally here!  Yes, it's Final Cut X, and it's a complete overhaul from Final Cut 7.  But I like the challenge of teaching this old dog some new tricks.  Welcome to the 21st Century...

Rachel's Challenge is a great pro-kindness program inspired by the death of Rachel Scott during the Columbine shootings.  We at the station are proud to be associated with them and have committed to promoting them as best we can.

This is not only my first FCPX project, it's also my first fully produced HD spot. I shot everything with our new Sony XDCAM EX camera and edited it in HD, as well (of course).  Needles to say, I ain't never going back!

Think Spokane

This spot is one in a series designed to tout some of the great things about Spokane in order to ease people's minds during the tough economic times.  If they were going to start spending money, we wanted them to think about spending it locally, first.

I wrote the copy and directed the Downtown shoot with our lead anchor.  My edit employs a few new tricks I had learned at the time.  The music track I used continues to be one of my favorites.  Extra credit if you can pick me out in the background...twice!

KREM 2 Special Reports

Sweeps time is when we pull out all the stops and do some investigative reporting.  I like it because the promotion for the stories can be varied and unique.  Whatever works to stir interest in the feature is the approach we need to take.  Sometimes it makes me feel like Brian DePalma!
