The Learning Guide is targeted towards educators, librarians and parents who wish to leverage Gamestar Mechanic - a digital game-based learning platform for teaching game design and systems thinking. Through several activities and lesson plans the Guide demonstrates how Gamestar Mechanic can be used in formal and informal learning environments while introducing all key game design concepts.

The Guide is composed of three main parts - Game Design 101, Challenge Cards and Field Guide. Game Design 101 has modular lessons that can be used in parallel to the in-game curriculum based on the educators goals. Challenge Cards allow educators to target students interests and passions pushing them to apply basic game design concepts in many different ways. The Field Guide section goes a step further connecting real world ideas with game creation through a series of journal entries. Also included are sample trajectories showing different ways lessons can be sequenced and combined across all sections.
