Universal Studios Monsters

The Universal Studios Monsters
I designed icons for each of the Universal Studios Monsters. When thinking of ideas for things that were particularity iconic I thought of these guys.

The original idea i had was that each of these characters was so iconic that any one of them would be instantly recognizable that i could make an icon of each only emphasizing the parts of them that made them unique. I played around with shadows and high contrast lighting.

I wanted the respect the source material and design cool and scary monsters. The last thing i wanted to do was make them cute looking. But icons by nature are small simple and cute so they ended up looking like this anyways.

The tricky part was making an icon set out of characters with extremely different physique and minute facial features that make each of them unique so i set some rules to keep it all cohesive.  I used the same shapes for each character. Frankenstein's monster is made out of two shapes, a rounded end of a rectangle. I used this shape for his head and body, the same withe the Wolfman, although very different shaped hey is made completely out of ellipses.

Right now its Halloween and Universal Studios has announced the "Dark Universe" reboot that started withe the Mummy 2017 Tom Cruise. These icons are in anticipation of the movies. They are simple and stylish and could work as stickers or emojis.
These are what they might of looked like for an illustration project instead of an icon set.
