STOP MOTION
Etsy is one of the world's largest online marketplaces for art, handmade and vintage items. One of the hottest craft trends of 2018 has been embroidery. Currently Instagram has over 8 million posts connected to the hashtag 'embroidery'. Creatives well know that there is extraordinary value in handmade & handcrafted elements for digital storytelling.
Using 'real' things to tell a story across a glossy screen intrigues and excites media users.
I chose to interpret the Etsy 'E' logo mark in its brand color of orange with a stop motion embroidery animation. This project spanned over a week of embroidering and photographing every few stitches.
Then the editing of each photograph to best match tone, color and vibrance.
Finally the images were collected into After Effects and Premiere to further color correct
and find the right speed for the motion.
My intention was to make not only the logo appear in the negative space but to give the embroidered flowers the feeling that they were growing and
coming into the space with a natural rhythm.
