The city of Knoxville, Tennessee is constantly growing and expanding outwards. Expansion projects continue to create new housing options on the outer edge and across the Tennessee River, and individuals drive to the Downtown area for professional and social affairs. This project explores the opportunity for Knoxville to expand vertically rather then laterally.
As the downtown housing market grows, the focus of this project was to provide mixed-use family housing within the urbanscape and promote a sense of community through on-site amenities and shared public space. The renovated Kress Building located on the historic Gay Street provides family oriented programs such as a day care, health clinic, and shopping center that invites residents to interact with the urban sector.
