“THE MIDNIGHT ESPRESSO CAFÉ” – © 1998
AutoCAD Rendering. The Midnight Espresso Café is an adaptive reuse design project utilizing an existing building shell. The overall dimensions of the internal space are 20 feet wide and 65 feet in length. The existing ceiling height is twelve feet.
The completed project is a neighborhood coffee and snack shop. The renovated space includes a main seating area, two ADA accessible restrooms, a service and display counter, and a kitchen-storage area in the rear. The new ceiling is multi-tiered and includes indirect cove lighting. There are two access points, the main street entrance, and a delivery door in the rear of the structure.
Décor in the Café is executed in the Art Deco style. The color scheme includes beiges, light browns, and grayed purple, with accents in brass and wood tones. Lighting in the main area also includes adjustable ceiling pin-lights and wall sconces. The kitchen-storage area has recessed, color balanced, fluorescent light arrays in the ceiling.
The seating area contains individuals tables and chairs and two C-shaped booths with seating in the center and on the outside. Maximum seating capacity is 42 people. The two restrooms are barrier-free, and lit with a combination of sconces and wall-washing pin-lights. The color schemes in each are the same, but the areas of dominant and secondary colors are reversed. (This design project was done for a course in Non-Residential Interiors.)
