FIVE ELEMENTS OF THE BLUE CLAY COUNTRY SPA

FIVE ELEMENTS OF THE BLUE CLAY COUNTRY SPA
There is a well-known and interesting concept of “Five Elements” in antique and
medieval philosophy, which is described by many historians and philosophers, including Plato. It
sounds quite simply: four initial elements-substances with a man in the center, who is the «Fifth
Element». It is the Theory of Everything, which says that this concept makes the substance
move...
The project reflects four elements, such as water, terra, air, fire as functional areas on the
site. All areas represent thematic attractions, such as:
 The Element "Water” is a lake, where fishing can be on the verge of meditation. Also it
suits for skating in winter;
 The Element "Terra" is a farm garden, which has either an area for the greenhouses and
winter gardens made of light aluminum constructions, or an area for beds with different
vegetables growing there in summer;
 The Element "Fire” is an area with integrated places for barbecue and open -fire cooking
of vegetables grown on the farm. Functions of relaxation and meditation with the ability
of watching the process from the side are on the perimeter of the area;
 The Element "Air" is an exclusively exposition area, which is clearly displays the
influence of the atmosphere and the environment on the entire world around us. The air
doesn’t only oxidize the exhibition items, also it is directly linked to the processes of
aging of the human body, which are clearly broadcasted to the walls of the exposition
labyrinth. It consists of a synthesis of media screens and "smart" glass partitions with
liquid crystal filler inside, which can adjust the degree of transparency in some parts of
the walls, thus creating a flexible, transformable space;
 The Element "Man" - the Fifth Element is at the heart of the concept and it is the SPA
complex itself. Its purpose is external and internal, physical and spiritual perfection of a
person, his recovery and rejuvenation.
Four outdoors areas are separated by "smart" glass partitions with liquid crystal
filler inside. They continue the labyrinth concept of the composition with square or
rectangular meshes-sections. The concept includes an allocated children's playground.
The supporting structures of the building are screw piles. The exterior walls of the
building are made of composite light concrete structures by permanent formwork
technology. Fitting and orientation of the building is making with full saving of relief,
landscape and vegetation of the site.
The roof and all overhanging elements of the complex are covered with solar
panels, accumulating energy during the day, which allows generating large amounts of
electricity, and helps to make the complex self-contained. Solar collectors are used as
glazing, which have a function of water heaters. This type of glazing design does not
differ from the double glazed windows in aluminum profile. For supporting the heating
of the complex collectors convert solar energy to heat with efficiency close to 72%.
So, the concept of the project realises both laconism and versatility of an antique
philosophic idea in contemporary design.
