These relatively large scale paintings explore the endangerment of natural wild life at the hands of man. The human animal's unique cognitive ability, to think abstractly, is our blessing and our curse. It has allowed us to extend ourselves into time and space beyond what one individual human could achieve in a single lifetime. It also allows us to make choices, good and bad, selfish or altruistic. The floating animals are both hauntingly disconnecting and or whimsically soaring. These paintings urge an awareness and a respect for the other creatures that inhabit our planet. Let us use our unique ability to communicate and develop technology (extend ourselves) to send a message of respect to the natural world and all of its living creatures.

Note: The environments are painted on location (plein aire) and then the paintings are moved back to my studio and animals are painted within the environments. All of the locations are within walking distance to my house and I transport my tools (paints, brushes, palette) in a wheelbarrow. I use digital references for the animals. Materials are water miscible oil paints on wood panels. Size of each painting is listed under each photo
