Создающая иллюзию объема композиция из кубиков появилась на лицевом фасаде главного здания ЛофтПроектаЭтажи в ноябре 2019 года.
Художник Victor Splash и прежде использовал этот визуальный образ в своих работах, но идея хаотичной композиции пришла к нему после очередного посещения знаковой петербургской площадки. На 7 000 квадратных метров бывшего хлебозавода сегодня соседствуют более двухсот резидентов, среди которых магазины, кафе, бары, выставочные пространства, коворкинг и хостел.

синергии сосуществование разных проектов неизбежно оставляет впечатление
неупорядоченности и сумбурности. Эти специфические черты, определенные
художником как «дух Шанхая», стали отправной точкой при разработке концепции оформления одной из центральных стен просторного внутреннего двора.

Выбранная художником поверхность – узкая (до 3 метров в ширину) полоса во всю высоту пятиэтажного советского здания – ограничена не только линиями фасада, но и прямоугольниками окон и жесткими очертаниями объемного карниза, расположенного над первым этажом. Описывая исходные данные, Victor Splash вспоминает, что поначалу думал, что на этой поверхности просто «негде рисовать». Опасения, которые могли бы оттолкнуть, стали главными аргументами «за». Ограничивающие элементы продиктовали подход к созданию работы: она должна была «не только хорошо вписаться в объем, но и в меру нагло “торчать”». Несмотря на то, что роспись на самом деле двухмерная, а уводящая взгляд зрителя в глубину перспектива иллюзорна, ей это удалось.
Новая визуальная доминанта поддержана реальными объектами - смонтированными на соседствующей с росписью стене лампами и усеченными кубами.
Технику, в которой выполнена композиция, художник называет 3D-кубизмом. Отсылка к модернистскому направлению, название которого неразрывно связано с именем Пабло Пикассо, его не смущает. Скорее, наоборот: возникающая связка кажется логичной, так как поиски автора напрямую связаны с переосмыслением наследия модернизма. 3D-мурал “ЭТАЖИ” стал первым в России проектом автора, открытым для широкого зрителя. Созданный в знаковом для российского современного искусства месте, он трансформировал общественное пространство и определил его новый облик.

An illusion of volume, a composition of cubes appeared on the front facade of the main building of the Loft Project Etagi in November 2019.
/// The artist Victor Splash had previously used this visual image in his works, but the idea of a chaotic composition came to him after the next visit to the iconic Saint-Petersburg site. Today, more than two hundred residents are adjacent to the 7,000 square meters of the former bakery, including shops, cafes, bars, exhibition spaces, coworking and a hostel.
The coexistence of different projects, conducive to the emergence of new ideas and their synergies, inevitably leaves an impression of disorder and confusion. These specific features, defined by the artist as the “Spirit of Shanghai”, became the starting point in developing the concept of designing one of the central walls of a spacious courtyard.
The surface chosen by the artist - a narrow (up to 3 meters wide) strip to the entire height of a five- story Soviet building - is limited not only by the facade lines, but also by the rectangles of the windows and the rigid outline of the three-dimensional cornice located above the first floor.
Describing the source data, Victor Splash recalls that at first he thought that on this surface there was simply "nowhere to draw". Fears that could repel, became the main arguments for. The limiting elements dictated the approach to the creation of the work: it had to “not only fit in well with the
volume, but also brazenly“ stick out ”.” Despite the fact that the painting is actually two-dimensional, and the perspective that leads the viewer into the depths is illusory, she succeeded.

The new visual dominant is supported by real objects - mounted on a wall adjacent to the painting with lamps and truncated cubes.
The artist calls the technique in which the composition is made 3D-cubism. A reference to the modernist trend, whose name is inextricably linked with the name of Pablo Picasso, does not bother him. Rather, it is the other way round: the emerging link seems logical, since the author’s search is directly related to the rethinking of the legacy of modernism.

3D-mural “FLOORS” was the first project in Russia by the author, open to a wide audience. Created in an iconic place for Russian contemporary art, he transformed the public space and defined its new look.
