Health Benefits of Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Currently the Co-owner and vice president of Eclipse RVs, Inc., Joanne Trealoff has been a RV dealer for 15 years. Outside of managing Eclipse RV, Inc., Joanne Trealoff enjoys stand-up paddle (SUP) boarding in her free time. SUP boarding is not only a relaxing activity, it also has a number of health benefits.

Two of the sport’s immediate benefits are that it helps with balance and strengthening the core. Being able to stand on the board in the water takes great balance, which requires strength in the user’s legs. More significantly, balancing oneself on the board also strengthens the core (stomach and abdomen).

Depending on the activity level, participants can take their love of the activity up a notch and turn it into a low impact work out. While users will exercise muscles in the legs, arms, shoulder, and back when on the board, it does little damage to the body because the activity level and movement is tamped down.

Those who SUP board can also find they get a great cardio workout from participating in the sport. The sport is similar to others like cross training, aerobics, and running simply because the more practiced the person becomes the faster and longer they can paddle. Moreover, this cardio workout can also help participants with conditioning and endurance.
