There are many different ways to process information. Designers process information in a more creative way than most. The creation of a brand identity is a way of thinking creatively. Kyoto, Japan, is a unique city that has its own place in the world. This place should include room to be different in its identity. For this reason, if Kyoto wants to compete against other global populations for tourism, they need to position themselves as an attractive place for knowledge, institutions, cultural and sporting events, and even film shoots (Mitchell, 2017). By developing a brand identity, complete with a full visual prowess of the city, one could ignite a campaign that would introduce Kyoto to the world. In order to make the identity work, a plan must be created that walks through the necessary steps. These steps include broad overviews such as inspiration, ideation and implementation. The inspiration comes from various subject matters. For Kyoto, they would include the geography of the landscape, the traditions of its rich history, or the modern culture that stimulates the visual growth of the city. Next, ideation includes further research of the visuals that would promote the city to the outside world. Finally, the implementation of the final product, that makes up the brand guidelines.
